The light microscopes have expanded to include macroscopes as well as inverted and upright light microscopes equipped with digital cameras from Lecia, Nikon, and Olympus. After preparing a sample in the metallography lab, microstructures can be examined in bright field, dark field, polarized light, and differential interference contrast (DIC). The light microscope bends a beam of light at the specimen using a series of lenses to provide a clear image of the specimen to the observer. In this lab, parts of the microscope will be reviewed.
